It’s never been easy to be a cab driver in NYC. There are long hours, low pay, rude passengers and navigating (no pun intended) through endless regulations, fees imposed from above which often come out of their own pockets, and dealing with hostile police. But conditions are worse now than ever, and recently FOUR drivers have committed suicide. With me is friend-to-the show, Bhairavi Desai, executive director of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) to discuss what the city and state could and should be doing and why things have degenerated so badly.
